Paralegal I - Litigation

Location: Remote, Folsom, CA (California Preferred)

Hours: PST Standard Business Hours

Pay Rate: $40.00/hour W2

Duration: 5-Month Contract

Interview Process: 1 Round

About the Role

Our client, an industry leading insurance firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys defending insured clients in California civil litigation matters. This role is heavily focused on California discovery and requires someone who can independently manage litigation support responsibilities while working remotely during Pacific Time business hours.

The ideal candidate has strong experience handling California civil litigation, particularly personal injury cases, and is comfortable drafting legal documents, calculating court deadlines, conducting legal research, and preparing cases for trial, arbitration, and mediation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide litigation support to attorneys defending insured clients in California civil litigation matters

  • Review legal files and case documents

  • Draft and prepare:

  • Discovery requests and responses

  • Motions and pleadings

  • Trial documents

  • Jury instructions

  • Other litigation-related filings

  • Calculate and monitor California statutory and court deadlines

  • Conduct legal research using Lexis and other electronic legal research tools

  • Interview insured clients for discovery and case preparation

  • Coordinate with retained experts for trial, mediation, and arbitration preparation

  • Organize evidence and maintain litigation files

  • Handle confidential legal information with professionalism and discretion

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of California civil litigation paralegal experience

  • Strong experience with California discovery (this is the top priority)

  • Experience supporting personal injury litigation

  • Knowledge of California civil procedure and court rules

  • Excellent legal drafting and document preparation skills

  • Experience calculating litigation deadlines

  • Strong proficiency with:

  • Microsoft Office

  • Legal case management software

  • Lexis or similar legal research platforms

  • Excellent written, organizational, analytical, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced litigation environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • California Paralegal Certificate (preferred but not required)
  • Knowledge of California Business & Professions Code Sections 6450-6456

Schedule

  • Fully Remote
  • Must be available during Pacific Time business hours
