Job Responsibilities

About Internet Crimes Against Children

This is a grant-funded full-time position.

Under general supervision, serves as a paralegal in the ICAC section.

  • Assists with file maintenance and organization. Generate a discovery and maintain a log of such activity. Effectively organizes and produces exhibits of case material for trial. Evaluates information related to legal matters in public or personal records. Assist with trial and trial preparation.
  • Conducts legal research. Creates reports and documents for attorneys. Assists in the preparation, summarization, and interpretation of legal documents. Assists the attorney with writing legal memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents. Use existing files and a variety of other legal research resources to prepare information for pending cases.

Assists in monitoring major changes to laws, guidelines, or regulations. Identify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes, and other pertinent materials.

  • Assists with obtaining case information from Investigators, law enforcement, and witnesses as requested and updates Investigators, law enforcement, and witnesses as to case status.
  • Assists with case docket management for the section, including checking county dockets for pending cases, monitoring scheduling of cases, and requesting information. Track dockets for case scheduling and assist with scheduling. Opening and closing files as requested.
  • Draft letters and answer correspondence at the request of the assigned attorneys.
  • Assists with providing case information to victim advocates and generates criminal history records as requested.
  • Assists with other assigned duties upon request.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and experience in providing administrative support for an attorney(s) or a legal office.

Necessary Requirements: A Paralegal Certificate or an Associates degree in paralegal studies is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and organizational functions.
  • Knowledge of legal research techniques and legal database software.
  • Knowledge of legal communication principles and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to perform legal research in accordance with preliminary instructions as to methods or approach, source material available, and policy and precedent of the office.
