Job Responsibilities

About State Grand Jury

Under general supervision, serves as a paralegal for investigations and prosecutions in the State Grand Jury Section.

  • Scans, saves, files, or oversees the scanning, saving, or filing of all investigative, court, and other relevant file documents into Worldox or the appropriate computer system on assigned cases in a timely and accurate manner. Organizes these documents and data within Worldox or the appropriate computer system using appropriate tags, categories, or other organizational systems. Assists in analyzing the documents and evidence and assists law enforcement and the prosecution in advancing State Grand Jury investigations as assigned by the supervising attorney.
  • Assists with and attends as necessary or permitted State Grand Jury, trial, and other court proceedings, and assists the prosecutor in preparation for and during State Grand Jury terms or trial. Assists in witness preparation, document production, organization, and handling of evidence. Travels throughout the State as is necessary in order to conduct and coordinate discovery or to assist in trials or other court appearances. Coordinates witness attendance as necessary, and conducts interviews of witnesses, gathers evidence, and prepares memorandums as directed. Testifies as may be needed.
  • Maintains control and access to investigative files, documents, and evidence, both for discovery and the Office. Organizes case files and assists the prosecutor in locating documents for trial, plea, State Grand Jury, and discovery purposes. Assists with the management of State Grand Jury subpoenas.
  • Works with state, federal, or local agencies to ensure that all discovery is gathered in an assigned case, and ensures all appropriate documentation is provided, and agents sign forms certifying that discovery has been provided.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Attorney General, supervising prosecutors, and other prosecutors within the division.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

An Associate's degree in paralegal studies and two years of relevant law enforcement, legal, or administrative experience, or a bachelor's degree with a paralegal certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Position may require overnight travel.

  • Knowledge of agency policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and program services.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to the specific administrative function.
  • Knowledge of governmental fiscal and personnel procedures, practices, and policies.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate diverse administrative functions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
