Job OverviewParalegal (Job Code: PP0013) – Non‑Exempt, At‑Will. Reports to Vice‑President & Deputy General Counsel. Work Format: Hybrid. Division: Government and Legal Affairs.Role DescriptionThe Paralegal provides project-related legal support to the Chief Legal Officer, EVP, attorneys, senior paralegals, and Director of Government Affairs. Duties include preparing draft correspondence, legal documents, pleadings, conducting legal research, preliminary analysis of cases, coordinating document preparation, managing databases, case calendaring, interagency communications, legislative analysis, and supporting the Department of Government and Legal Affairs.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist senior legal staff across litigation, receivership, tax‑liens, real estate, customer service, employment, environmental, governance, intellectual property, regulatory/administrative law, and government affairs matters.Conduct legal research using Westlaw and/or LexisNexis; prepare briefs, pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery documents.Analyze law, legislative history, precedent-setting cases, and draft court documents.Organize information and investigation findings.Process subpoena requests and provide documents to requesters.Perform electronic research and case‑law citation checking; monitor new and amended regulations in the DC Register.Maintain case‑management records and handle processes related to DGLA functional areas.Assist FOIA Coordinator with FOIA matters.Prepare and assemble materials for attorneys, senior paralegals, and government affairs staff.Meet with DC Water personnel to gather information.Act as liaison between counsel, authority staff, outside counsel, and the public.Proofread documents and correspondence.Monitor expenses and assist in procuring supplies and services.Prepare regular and special reports.Perform other duties and projects as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone.Key Working RelationshipsCo‑workers across the Office and Authority, outside counsel, and the general public.Skills & QualificationsRequired ExperienceFive (5) years of relevant legal experience in one or more of the DGLA functional areas, orThree (3) years of relevant legal experience in one or more of the DGLA functional areas with an associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field, orOne (1) year of relevant legal experience in one or more of the DGLA functional areas with a Juris Doctorate degree.Minimum Education RequirementsParalegal certificate from an accredited program, college, or university and five (5) years of relevant legal experience.Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field with three (3) years progressive experience.Juris Doctorate from an ASA‑accredited law school with one (1) year experience.Required SkillsPass pre‑employment aptitude and skills assessment (math, verbal, typing, computer literacy, MS Office).Maintain training and certification requirements.Practical knowledge of basic legal principles.Skilled in briefing, evaluating evidence, and communication.Knowledge of FOIA, legal research databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis).Proficiency in word processing, Adobe, PowerPoint, and spreadsheets.Required Licenses & CertificationsParalegal Certification (if applicable).Required LanguagesEnglish.Physical RequirementsGeneral office conditions.Preferred Skills & QualificationsNone.EEO StatementWe are an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V.
