Paramedic Critical Care | UF Health Flight Services | 24hrs. shift | Part-time (benefits eligible)

Overview

Under the direction of the Program Manager and Flight Surgeon/Medical Director the CCFP is accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate and efficient manner, providing high standards of patient care while ensuring a safe and hazard free environment. The critical care flight paramedic contributes to overall patient care in areas of patient assessment, treatment, packaging and transport. This position interacts throughout the facility internally, and with patients and their families externally. In addition, this position interacts with various first response agencies and health-care providers, physicians and hospital personnel externally. As a member of an academic flight program, crew members take an active role in outreach educational initiatives including but not limited to: outreach education to EMS, as well as education and resource performance improvement for Trauma Service Area agencies.

Responsibilities

• Organization, direction, and implementation of patient care in the emergency/critical care environment with appropriate documentation of patient care and associated interventions
• Participate in educational outreach initiatives. Actively participates in Quality Improvement activities
• Maintains pertinent instructor ratings in specialty areas
• Must meet physical agility requirements as outlined by service policy to be completed annually
• Plans, provides and documents age appropriate care based on the patient assessment by: identifying patient problems and performing interventions based on standards of care and evaluating those interventions. Administers and documents medications and intravenous solutions according to established policies.
• Complies with programs as defined in hospital policies and procedures such as medication administration process, endotracheal intubation (both orotracheal), surgical cricothyroidotomy, thoracostomy, transport ventilator use, rapid sequence induction administration, safe use of restraints, use of I.V. infusion pumps, spinal immobilization techniques, and communication among caregivers
• Communicates in a professional manner with other members of the health care team, including those agencies outside of UF Health Jacksonville.
• Serves as a patient advocate by providing compassionate care, which is individualized to meet the special needs of each patient.
• Performs all duties as assigned within the job scope
• Adheres to dress code, mission statement, policies and procedures, time and attendance guidelines.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and acts in an ethical manner at all times.
• Demonstrates knowledge and professionalism when dealing with the Trauma Operations Center/E.M.S. Communications.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Participates in on-going education to expand and enhance professional development as required by hospital guidelines. 2. Consistently demonstrates knowledge of Regulatory Agency Standards by incorporating them into daily practice.

2. Demonstrates clinical skill in patient care management.

3. Complies with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology in relation to cardiac, pulmonary, renal, and neurological systems.

5. Weight, height, vision, and physical exam requirements in accordance with the weight and balance specifications of specific aircraft as recommended by the aircraft manufacture.

6. Must be able to function in a small environment and be proportionate in build.

7. Must be able to see hazards and be able to maneuver safely around the aircraft or vehicle.

8. Be able to lift, push, pull 250 pounds or more with assistance, climb in and out of cars, and facilitate patient extrication.

9. Must meet and maintain recurrent annual aviation training as required by vendor specific Federal Aviation Administration Part 135 Requirements and air operator license.

3. Provide leadership/incident command level authority at emergency scenes in conjunction with other agencies. 4. Customer relations and organization skills are essential.

4. Adheres to Hospital Policy, and the Florida Department of Emergency Medical Services guidelines in providing patient care.

5. Familiar with Advanced Life Support patient care equipment.

6. Education/Instruction of EMS agencies throughout the Trauma Service Area.

7. Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to cardiac, pulmonary, renal and neurological systems

Qualifications

Required Education

• High School Diploma or GED. Associate of Science Degree preferred

Required Licensure/Certifications

• Florida Paramedic License
• BLS from the American Heart Association
• ACLS from the American Heart Association
• PALS from the American Heart Association Within 6 months of hire or transfer
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) audit
• Completion of an Air Medical Crew Core Curriculum course in accordance with Florida Administrative Code
• Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

Preferred Licensure/Certifications

• National Registry Paramedic
• ACLS Instructor
• PALS Instructor
• Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Instructor
• Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC)/Instructor
• Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)/Instructor

Experience

• 3-5 years Field experience in an active Emergency Medical Service or hospital

Preferred experience

• Over 5 years field experience in an active 911 Emergency Medical Service
