Job Overview: Responsible for providing high level emergency medical care, focusing on the ambulance transport environment within the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and surrounding partner agencies. Firefighting responsibilities include responding to fire calls within the community and state mutual aid partners. Other assignments include fire suppression preplanning within the community and community disaster response. Additional duties are assisting the shift captain in maintaining a high level of operational readiness.

Required Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current state or national equivalent Paramedic (NRP) certification required.
  • Able to obtain qualification IFSAC certification as Firefighter II level.
  • Able to obtain Haz-Mat operations certification.
  • Possess a valid State of Minnesota driver’s license.
  • Must satisfactorily perform the department daily physical fitness requirements.
  • Ability to work in a wide range of climate temperatures, including excessive heat and/or subzero temperatures.
  • Proficiency in maintaining safety while handling potential fumes, chemicals, odors, and/or noise.
  • Has the physical abilities to perform the required job duties with or without accommodations.
  • Capacity to handle and lift up to 150 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to move in a variety of motions including bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, twisting, pulling, and/ or pushing.
