Responsibilities • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate medical care • Reports verbally and in writing observations and medical care of the patient • Provides accurate medical documentation of all medical treatment provided • May be assigned various administrative and/or hospital duties, including: • Inventory and ordering supplies • Squad readiness checks • Testings and inventories • Verifying that ambulance and its contents are in proper working condition • Maintaining familiarity with specialized equipment • Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Initiative processes by properly reviewing patient care reports as set forth by department standards • Assists in providing assistance in the hospital emergency department • Operates at level of certification as allowed by protocol with medical director approval (EMT-Paramedic) • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned • Documents daily, weekly, and monthly ambulance checks to ensure proper stock levels of equipment and supplies • Prepares the ambulances by ensuring they are cleaned and in a state of readiness
Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course Current certification at EMT-PM level is required Valid Iowa drivers license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of: • DUI • DWI • Similar alcohol or drug-related offenses over the past five years • Reckless driving • Careless driving • Speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit • Fleeting or eluding a police officer • Chemical test refusal • Leaving the scene of an accident • Driving after revocation or suspension • Passing a stopped school bus in the last five years Preferred: • Current certification in PHTLS PEARS • Current NREMT certification • Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement • Previous EMS experience
