PARAMEDIC STUDENT
DUTIES AND FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The employee in this class will be responsible for attending and successfully completing the Delaware Technical and Community College (DTCC) Paramedic Education Program. They must meet the criteria for certification as a Delaware Paramedic at the completion of the DTCC program. The employee in this class will attend school at DTCC learning to perform highly responsible and technical advanced lifesaving and emergency medical treatment, and safe transportation to the hospital of injured or ill patients. The Paramedic Student shall perform related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Field Training Coordinator (FTC). All paramedic students are considered essential employees and may be subject to emergency call-in and extended or varying shifts.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Under the supervision of the Field Training Coordinator (FTC), the paramedic student will attend all aspects of the DTCC paramedic training program. The work environment may consist of classroom instruction, simulation lab sessions, various hospital and specialty site clinical rotations, and EMS field time throughout the State of Delaware. In each of these training environments, the paramedic student will demonstrate increased proficiency in their ability to accurately assess and treat victims of traumatic or medical emergencies. The student may be requested to participate in SCEMS sponsored educational activities in addition to the paramedic program curriculum.
While working in a clinical site, regardless of location, the paramedic student will function as a team member along with other members of the health care team and is expected to perform tasks as requested as appropriate. The paramedic student will demonstrate and display a constructive attitude and professional demeanor in the workplace, the classroom, and in public. The student will report to the assigned work location when required and on time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 18 years of age
Graduate from an accredited high school or G.E.D.
Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (state or National Registry)
Meet all current prerequisite requirements for entry into the Delaware Technical & Community College (DTCC) paramedic program
Delaware Class "D" driver's license or out-of-state equivalent
Successful completion of SCEMS selection process
psychiatric and physical examinations
essential job functions test
written, oral, and practical examination
background investigation (including driving, criminal and credit)
Ability to be certified by the Delaware Board of Medical Practice as a Paramedic upon successful completion of DTCC Program
Ability to be certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as a Paramedic upon successful completion of DTCC Program
