The bilingual paraprofessional provides instructional and language support to multilingual learners under the direction and supervision of licensed educators. The paraprofessional assists students in developing English language proficiency while supporting access to grade-level curriculum and promoting student independence, academic achievement, and positive school engagement.
This position serves as a liaison between students, school staff, and families by providing language support and culturally responsive assistance while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional support to English Learners individually, in small groups, and within general education classrooms under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
- Reinforce instructional activities planned by classroom and English Language Learner teachers.
- Support students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
- Assist students with understanding classroom routines, assignments, and instructional materials while encouraging increasing independence
- Help prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and language supports.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that values students'' cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Provide language support during instructional activities, family communication, conferences, and school events as assigned and appropriate.
- Assist with student supervision in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, buses, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
- Collect observational data and communicate student progress or concerns to licensed staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with district policies and state and federal laws.
- Collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, English Language Learner teachers, special education staff, administrators, and other school personnel.
- Participate in required district trainings, professional development, and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
