Part-Time Paraprofessional - Classroom Aide
Position Purpose
The Elementary School Paraprofessional provides support to classroom teachers and students by assisting in daily classroom activities, managing instructional materials, and helping to create a positive and productive learning environment. This role involves working closely with students, including those with special needs, to ensure their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Responsibilities:
Classroom Support:
- Assist teachers with instructional activities, lesson preparations, and classroom management.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students as directed by the teacher.
- Reinforce classroom rules, procedures, and positive behavior.
Student Support:
- Support students with varying academic abilities, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Help students stay focused and engaged during lessons.
- Assist students with physical or mobility needs, if necessary.
Instructional Assistance:
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources.
- Monitor student progress and report observations to the teacher.
- Supervise classroom activities, such as group work and independent study.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of student activities and behavior.
- Assist with grading assignments, organizing materials, and setting up learning centers.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and other staff members.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and training as required.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Provide supervision during non-classroom times such as lunch, recess, or dismissal.
- Adapt to the needs of the school and classroom by taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associates or Bachelors degree preferred).
- NJ Substitue Certification (Not required but prefered).
- Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is a plus.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Proficiency in using technology for instructional and administrative tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Part-time hours as determined by the school.
- Interaction with students in a variety of classroom and school settings.
- May require physical activity such as lifting, bending, or standing for extended periods.
