JOB GOAL: To assist in the implementation of the Individual Educational Plans of students with hearing loss.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Service Delivery-

  1. Demonstrate sensitivity to the individual needs of students.

  2. Demonstrates an acceptance working with all students, especially those with multiple disabilities.

  3. Demonstrates the ability to work with others and be flexible with scheduling.

  4. Effectively assist with instruction and student''s accomplishment of specific academic and functional tasks.

  5. Effectively assist in the school-wide implementation of instructional and behavioral practices and interventions to improve student outcomes (e.g data collection, modeling, and reteaching, etc.).

  6. Effectively assist in the management of student''s behaviors as individualized and through consistent enforcement of established classroom/school rules.

  7. Implement classroom carry-over activities as prescribed through the teacher by the Speech/Language Therapist, OT/PT, and Hearing/Vision Teachers.

  8. As necessary and with appropriate training, program assistive communication devices, set up calendar systems and schedules.

  9. Supervise and assist students, as needed, in other school environments e.g. mainstream classrooms, gym, lunchroom, playground, washroom, field trips, etc throughout the day acting as a bridge to independence.

  10. Assist students with disabilities upon school arrivals/departures, from room-to-room, and activity-to-activity.

  11. Lift/carry students as necessary for personal care or emergency assistance.

  12. Provide personal care as applicable for the program, (e.g.diapering, hygiene procedures, feeding, etc.).

  13. Provide first aid, if necessary.

  14. Record student''s academic and/or behavioral progress using appropriate technology.

  15. Use appropriate computer and technology-based equipment, tools, and materials for data collection, information management, and instruction as assigned.

  16. Assists in the implementation of the special education Individualized Education Program (IEP) for the student(s) including physical and behavioral management, if necessary.

  17. Assists in the implementation of the student(s)' IEP in all educational settings including the lunchroom, hallways, playground, bathroom, etc.

  18. Collects observational data about assigned students in various school environments and reports to the supervising special education teacher. Completes forms and reports as needed.

  19. Assists in ordering, dissemination, and return of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) materials and equipment.

  20. Provides guidance to students of what is happening auditorily in the classroom.

  21. Coordinate with DHH teacher and/or classroom teachers to help prepare, and adapt materials/assignments/homework.

  22. Pre-teaching and re-teaching concepts that are difficult to understand with a hearing loss.

Professional Responsibilities-

  1. Participate in conferences, meetings, teams, as assigned, to contribute to a positive District environment.

  2. Prepare accurate learning materials.

  3. Provide routine room and work area maintenance (e.g. organize materials, supplies, learning areas, etc.).

  4. Maintain student records and confidentiality.

  5. Attend work regularly.

  6. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with all stakeholders, through oral, written, and technological means.

  7. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the DHH teacher.

  8. Participate in professional development opportunities required by the district to ensure proper training required to support individual student/ develop and advance sign language skills and techniques used when working with disabled and/or Deafblind students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. school office/ classroom/passageways).
