Description
TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL
Qualifications:
Ability to effectively interact with regular and special education students.
Ability to work in a coordinated manner with regular education teachers and special education teachers to help meet the educational and behavioral needs of special education students.
Maintain, or be able to obtain, proper certification as required by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
Reports to: Building Principal, Director of Pupil Services, regular education and special education teachers.
Supervises: Assists special education teachers in the supervision of special education students.
Job Goal: To provide a safe, consistent, and supportive learning environment for students with exceptional educational needs.
Job Responsibilities:
Implement academic and behavioral plans for students per the direction of supervising special education teachers and appropriate regular education teachers.
Assist with the escort and supervision of students in the school building.
Perform clerical duties and maintenance of classroom records per the direction of supervising special education teachers.
Report safety hazards and safety violations to building principal or appropriate district employee.
Maintain confidentiality of students in and out of the building.
Assist with personal care of students:
Feeding
Toileting
Lifting (80 pounds)
Appropriate training will be provided for any other medical procedures.
Perform any other duties assigned that are consistent with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Supervision of general education and special education students during recess and/or lunch based on assigned schedule.
Follow the schedule you are provided by the special education teacher as you can be assigned duties across the District.
Crossing Guard duties on a rotating basis following training.
