POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
The
work
of
a
Parent/Community
Liaison
(PCL)
focuses
on
supporting
parents/families
and
school
personnel
to
optimize
parent
involvement
and
thereby
increase
student
educational
success.
PCL's
provide
support
services
utilizing
communication,
cooperation
and
collaboration
as
basic
tools
in
addition
to
any
specialized
skills
they
bring
to
the
position
(e.g.
foreign
language
skills).
GENERAL
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Work
with
the
building
principal
and
supervisor
to
identify
school
community
needs
in
order
to
devise
a
plan
to
increase
parent
involvement.
2.
Ensure
families
and
students
receive
outstanding
welcome
and
service
in
school.
3.
Support
students,
parents,
and
staff
in
building
relationships
and
in
bridging
differences..
4.
Facilitate
communication
for
students,
families
and
teachers
to
promote
cooperation
and
collaboration
to
positively
impact
student
achievement.
5.
Improve
relationships
with/between/among
school
staff/family/care-providers/other
professionals
through
collaboration
and
building
partnerships.
6.
Support
and
promote
a
safe
and
friendly
school
environment
for
all,
assisting
in
maintaining
a
climate
of
respect
and
fairness.
7.
Develop
and
maintain
a
strong
awareness
and
understanding
of
student/family/community
and
school
issues
as
they
impact
student
success
and
school
climate.
8.
Educate
parents
and
community
members
about
their
value
as
partners
with
the
school
system
in
educating
students.
9.
Support
teachers
and
administrators
in
assigned
project-based
work.

Facilitate

SPECIFIC
DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Work
with
teachers/staff
to
facilitate
communication
with
parents
and
community
members.
2.
Participate
in
planning
and
organization
of
meetings
with
parents,
families
and
community
members.
3.
Monitor
parent
involvement
activities.
4.
Provide
support
in
the
area
of
school
communication,
including
drafting,
interpreting,
translating
and
maintaining
documents
(depending
on
building
needs).
5.
Develop/provide
relevant
informational
and
bilingual
handouts
and
background
material
to
promote
parent
awareness,
and
support
6.
Maintain
appropriate
records
of
all
meetings
and
activities,
and
collect
program
reporting
forms
and
evaluation
data
as
requested
by
the
principal/supervisor.
7.
Serve
as
the
initial
point
of
contact
for
parents,
receiving
and
acting
upon
their
requests
and
concerns
in
a
fair,
impartial
and
timely
manner,
helping
them
to
address
concerns
to
appropriate
personnel.
8.
Solicit
parent
participation
in
various
parent
organizations
and
in
various
school
activities.
9.
Establish
formal
and
informal
communication
channels
with
community
members/leaders,
organizations,
and
parent
groups
to
engage
them
in
collaborative
projects.
10.
Participate
in
school
committees
and
in
committees
of
other
organizations
related
to
enhancing
parent
involvement.
11.
Participate
in
in-service
training
programs,
departmental,
and
various
parent
meetings
as
assigned
by
the
principal
and/or
supervisor.
12.
Under
the
supervision
of
the
principal,
assist
students
with
issues
preventing
their
success
at
school.
13.
Perform
other
duties
and
responsibilities
designated
by
the
principal.
14.
Attend
meetings
and/or
events
after
scheduled
work
hours
as
directed
by
the
building
principal.
