Job Description

Be a part of history as one of the first Park Ambassadors at Gipson Play Plaza, the City of Raleigh's crown jewel park. Park Ambassadors are responsible for providing exceptional guest service, responding to emergencies, and being willing to assist with park events and operations. Individuals in this role must adhere to the City's standards and procedures to deliver a consistent guest experience. Park Ambassadors are highly motivated individuals that utilize their attention to detail to elevate park experiences. They are actively engaged with park guests, team members, and the park as a whole. Becoming a part of the Park Operations team at Gipson Play Plaza will give you the opportunity to provide lifelong memories for generations of families at the park.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guest Engagement: Welcome and interact positively with park guests, especially children and families.
  • Safety Enforcement: Uphold safety standards on playground and during park activities: recognize and address potential safety issues promptly; respond to and administer minor first aid.
  • Operational Duties: Conduct opening and closing tasks, safety inspections, restock information kiosk items, and help with special tasks.
  • Event Support: Assist with crowd control during special events and emergencies; support special events, including setup and equipment inspections.
  • Rule Communication: Enforce the park rules and communicate them effectively to guests.
  • Maintenance Reporting: Maintain cleanliness of park attractions and play areas; report maintenance needs and guest issues to supervisors.
  • Additional Tasks: Assist guests with needs like reuniting lost children; completing incident reports; attend mandatory trainings, and meetings; perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Required:

  • Age & Education: At least 18 years old; high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer Service Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact positively with diverse populations, patience with guests and children especially.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of standing and walking for up to 7 hours; able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk up and down stairs, and lightly climb.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends, minor holidays, and non-traditional hours.
  • Certifications: Ability to successfully complete CPR training.
  • Drivers License: Valid North Carolina Class C drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Policy Adherence: Ability to follow department policies, procedures, and safety guidelines; conform to uniform and grooming standards.
  • Basic Skills: Ability to perform basic math calculations for timecards and inventory; comfortable using cleaning chemicals.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in customer service, recreation, amusement, or education settings.
  • Experience directing activities; bilingual abilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Full use of arms and legs, including climbing stairs and operating equipment.
  • Ability to balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, and talk.
  • Visual acuity of at least 20/30 with or without correction.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold; focus in noisy environments with high guest traffic.

Additional Information

Ideal candidates are outgoing, organized self-starters passionate about working outdoors, with children, and can operate in large crowds. Confidence in conflict resolution is important. The park operates seven days a week, including most holidays, so flexibility is essential. Applicants must pass a background check, controlled substance test, and complete all required trainings.
