PARK ATTENDANT (PARKS GROUNDS TECH ASST-HRL)

SEASONAL POSITION- HIRING FOR ALL PARKS ON AN HOURLY BASIS

There are NO guaranteed amount of hours per week.

This position could be located in any one of the Guilford County Parks.

All first year staff will start at the minimum.

The location information will be discussed at the time of interview.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs responsible work in maintaining park grounds and some light equipment. The majority of work is performed in the Parks and Recreation Department at various locations as needed.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class works to maintain the grounds for the parks and public areas of the town. Work includes cutting away dead or excess branches from trees or shrubs to maintain trails, sidewalks, or to improve appearance, health, and value of tree. Work typically requires the use of riding mowers, tractors, light duty trucks, light duty backhoe operations, light duty front end loader and a various of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, axes, sprayers, and tools for maintenance of equipment. Questions and technical issues are referred to the lead worker. Complexity of work is noted with performing mechanic work on equipment. Employee is an outside worker and public contact is occasional when foot and/or motorized traffic passes by to stop the employee and ask questions or make comments. Work is performed under close supervision and is checked through observation and review of work orders.

Applicants must be 16 years of age or older to qualify.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Cleans restrooms, picks up trash, and cleans shelters.
  • Maintains sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, pool, planters, and other grounds features.
  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Ability to perform strenuous labor for an extended period of time with exposure to heat and cold weather conditions.
  • Ability to speak, understand and communicate information and ideas so others may understand.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent and six months grounds maintenance experience; OR demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks. Valid drivers license required, and attain a valid North Carolina drivers license within 60 days after hire. Driving records check required.

Physical Demands

Employee is subject to hazards, including mechanical equipment and atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, and dusts. At least half of each week requires exposure to sensory extremes. Several times weekly, exposure to chance of injury or loss of life, which can be substantially controlled by use of significant safety precautions. The work is required to have visual acuity to perform performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc..

Work Conditions

Work is performed inside and out in varying conditions including loud noise. Hazards may include occasional exposure to health risk of infection when cleaning up body fluids.

Driving is Essential

Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid drivers license and that the driving record is compatible with the countys driving criteria.

If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford Countys vehicle use policy.

Candidates must reside within a two-hour driving radius of Guilford County to be considered for employment.
