ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District is seeking to fill one Park Maintenance Worker - Parks vacancy for the Habitat and Open Space Management division at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area.
The position is based at 11401 Arlington Ave., Riverside, CA 92505; however, the selected candidate may be required to travel to various work locations based on departmental needs.
The Park Maintenance Worker performs a wide range of maintenance duties in a wildlands setting including performing string trimmer and tractor mowing weed abatement; clean up of illegally dumped refuse, unhoused encampments; fabricating, installing, and repairing gates and fence lines; weeding and assisting with restoration projects; and doing other maintenance related tasks as they arise such as road grading, graffiti removal, and equipment repair and maintenance.
The selected candidate will ideally possess experience using and maintaining a wide range of electric and gas-powered hand tools such as string trimmers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, water pumps, drills, saws, grinders, and experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment. Experience handling HAZMAT is a plus.

The Park Maintenance Worker - Parks is the first professional level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. This classification is characterized by its primary function to the performance of buildings and grounds maintenance duties. Incumbents may occasionally perform public contact duties such as answering questions of park users regarding District facilities and informing users of park rules and regulations.
The Park Maintenance Worker - Parks is distinguished from the Grounds Worker classification by the formers assignment of skilled and semi-skilled work.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License: Possession of a valid Class C California Drivers License is required at the time of application. The incumbent will be required to drive a county vehicle to and from park facilities as well as within the park.
OPTION I
Experience: Two years of performing any combination of the following: grounds or building maintenance and repair, debris removal, ranch work, plumbing, carpentry, metal fabrication, electrical, heating and cooling, landscape gardening including irrigation, habitat restoration, light to medium duty tractor maintenance, farming. (Completion of college level courses from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience.)
OPTION II
Experience: Two years as a Park Attendant with the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District.
ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of: Common tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work; basic vehicle preventive maintenance techniques.
Ability to: Read and follow written instructions and write simple reports; perform a variety of routine grounds, building, equipment, and vehicle preventive maintenance and repair; operate equipment and learn procedures and safety techniques used in performing maintenance and minor construction projects; deal courteously and tactfully with the general public.
Physical Requirements: Candidates may be exposed to wildlife. Walking long distances to cover grounds, bending, squatting and standing for long periods of time. Must be able to work outdoors in any type of weather. Summer heat can reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter can be as low as 25-degree Fahrenheit. The position requires moving heavy materials such as trash bags, concrete bags, grass seed bags or other materials and supplies related to the maintenance of park facilities. The selected candidate must be able to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0 < 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4 < 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY:
Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave Benefits. The wage replacement rate is determined by current law, offering 60-70% of the wages earned during the SDI eligibility period.
Additionally, employees receive employer-paid Long-Term Disability Benefits, which cover 66.67% of pre-disability earnings, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month. There is a 365-day waiting period before these benefits become active. Employees may coordinate these benefits with other available leave balances to receive up to 100% of their regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
