Parking Enforcement Officer I
The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington, and Fairfax counties. An Overview
Parking Enforcement Officers (PEOs) patrol an assigned designated area of the city looking for various parking violations. Such violations include residential permit parking, meters, official sign, loading and timed zone violations of commuter ordinance. The Parking Enforcement Officer issues parking citations for all violations noted and testifies in court whenever necessary. PEOs may render incidental assistance to the general public by giving directions and/or assisting with other general municipal information. This position requires shift work to include days, evenings, midnights, weekends, and holidays. PEOs are required to work outside for prolonged periods of time in all types of inclement weather conditions.
This position also provides an opportunity to learn more about the Alexandria Police Department and the law enforcement community. Candidates that are interested in a future law enforcement career may benefit from full time employment in this position. Those who complete the hiring process and successful completion of the mandatory probationary period of twelve (12) months as a Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO), excellent work history with the Alexandria Police Department will be considered upon applying for Police Officer.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
High School Diploma or GED; one year of public contact work experience involving record-keeping duties; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; must be a *United States citizen or a lawful resident of the United States.
The Virginia VCIN/NCIC (Virginia Criminal Information Network/ National Criminal Information Center) mandates that all basic terminal operators be a United States citizen or be a lawful resident of the United States for the past 10 consecutive years as well as be employed by a criminal justice agency prior to applying for certification.
Employees must possess a valid drivers license issued by their state of residence.

Salary is negotiable based on experience as it relates to this position.
The Parking Enforcement Officer position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with the Labor and Trade CBA.
