The Parking Services Attendant provides critical operational support to the campus community by managing traffic flow, enforcing parking regulations, and ensuring building security. Primary responsibilities include directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic at high-volume intersections, patrolling designated parking lots to issue citations for non-compliance, and maintaining parking meters. This position also assists with special event logistics, including equipment setup and after-hours coverage, and performs routine building security checks as directed by university police supervisors.

Salary: $34,312

Schedule: 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday pass days during Spring and Fall semesters. 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday pass days during Summer and Winter breaks.

Major Responsibilities

Pedestrian Crossing

  • Assist pedestrians with safely crossing high traffic locations throughout campus.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors with directions to campus locations.
  • Direct vehicular traffic to assist with pedestrian safety.

Enforce Parking Rules

  • Monitor campus parking lots for non-compliant parking violations and issue tickets as appropriate.
  • Monitor ADA- designated spaces, metered parking spaces, and fire lanes for vehicles not in compliance with the parking rules and ticket as appropriate.
  • Enforcement activity will be focused on two parking lots located in the center of North Campus.

Special Event Parking Management

  • Assist with the management of special event parking.
  • Provide coverage for events outside of normal work hours as needed.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down barricades.

Building Security

  • Secure doors of buildings throughout campus as directed by the police supervisor.

Meters and Signage

  • Maintain parking meters and collect coins as needed.
  • Set up and take down signage when needed.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the Parking Operations Supervisor

Required Qualifications

Must be in possession of a valid NYS Driver's License, be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time, work in inclement weather, and be able to lift heavy objects up to 40 pounds. Applicants must be able to read, speak, and understand English.

  • Successful candidate will be issued a body-worn camera to document interactions with the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in parking enforcement, security, event logistics, or traffic control, preferably within a campus setting.
  • Knowledge of the specific campus geography, buildings, and parking layouts to efficiently guide visitors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skill in safely directing pedestrian and vehicle traffic using hand signals, signs, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to monitor surroundings, recognize hazards, and respond proactively.
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations calmly and professionally when interacting with frustrated drivers or pedestrians.
  • Skill in documenting incidents, safety concerns, or unusual occurrences accurately
  • Proficiency in using equipment such as a traffic van, reflective gear, stop paddles, and radios.
