Under direction from the Parks Operations Manager or his/her delegate, assists with the maintenance of City of Bryan owned cemeteries.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists with any and all maintenance and repairs of the cemeteries.
- Displays proper etiquette when working around or with cemetery patrons.
- Marks gravesites for burials, assists with the sale of plots, and maintains sales records
- Answers business-related phones calls and replies to internal staff emails
- Prepares to assist any patron, prior to their arrival in the cemetery, for a burial.
- Assists the public with questions and concerns regarding cemeteries when needed.
- Adheres to cemetery rules and regulations regarding grave markers, decorations, etc. and takes appropriate action to rectify violations.
- Re-levels headstones and repairs sunken graves/uneven grounds.
- Mows, weed-eats and blows grass clippings and leaves.
- Performs weeding and trimming around fences, headstones, and other landscaping areas.
- Maintains and or repairs cemetery irrigation systems to make sure they are in proper working condition; reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel as required.
- Maintains fencing and entryways.
- Removes trash, dead and/or damaged artificial flowers and other debris.
- Performs general maintenance of equipment & buildings, including painting, custodial services, and minor repair of equipment.
- Ensures the safe and proper use of all equipment.
- Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts and conditions as required.
- Assists with the setup, teardown, and other tasks for special City events as directed.
- Assists at other parks as needed/assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- A minimum of one (1) year of work experience performing landscaping, grounds maintenance, facility maintenance, or other similar job responsibilities.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: Sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending; using hands and fingers to operate office equipment and machines; and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 80 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an outdoor field environment. At times employee will be exposed to wet/humid conditions and temperature extremes; moving mechanical parts and equipment; loud noises; fumes and airborne particles such as dust, pollen, herbicides, pesticides and other chemicals.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: phone, truck, trailer, tractor, push/riding lawn mower, weed eater, edger, blower, hedge trimmer, sprayer, shovel, rake, hand/power tools and other assorted landscape/grounds maintenance equipment.
