The City of Burlington WI is a community located in Western Racine County, that is appreciated by its residents for its hometown feel and innovative schools. The Parks & Recreation Coordinator position is a collaboration between the Burlington Area School District (BASD) and the City of Burlington.
Job Summary & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the BASD Superintendent, this position will be responsible for:
- Strategic Leadership & Accountability
- Program Development, Coordination and Utilization
- Marketing & Communication of programs and resources to the Community
The Burlington Area School District Community Education program is well-known for the diversity of high quality offerings it presents through its programming and events. The right fit person for this role is able to build on that legacy and enrich the outreach and offerings of the program to encompass opportunities through the City of Burlington partnership and facilities. An innovative, resourceful individual who is organized, an effective communicator and excels at relationship building and outreach will be a successful candidate.
Strategic Leadership
- Responsible for the vision, direction and execution of innovative recreation programs that respond to community needs. Programming may include adult and youth general programming, dance and fitness, and general events, and athletic activities and programming.
- Prioritize outreach, development, and maintenance of working relationships with the community, including local school districts, rental groups, affiliate organizations, and other community organizations related to the development and expansion of programs.
- Prepare and oversee the budget process from planning to execution and evaluation for assigned facilities and programs, with emphasis on timeliness and accountability. Develop long-range recommendations for capital expenses.
- Act as a liaison to assigned affiliate groups, maintaining strong working relationships and ensuring alignment with department goals and policies.
- Continuously seek ways to improve and deliver quality services to both external and internal customers through appropriate and effective usage of data analysis and related reporting.
Program/Department Coordination
- Plan and submit program content for seasonal brochures; coordinate promotional materials in collaboration with the Superintendent, City staff, and internal district staff as needed.
- Define personnel and staffing requirements; develop a plan to recruit, hire, and train necessary staff for assigned areas of responsibilities.
- Manage and directly supervise all payroll activities for areas of responsibility.
- Ensure staff plans for and purchases supplies for programming needs in a fiscally responsible manner; processes invoices and reconcile receipts for purchases in accordance with deadlines and the District''s Purchasing Policy.
- Oversee program registration processes, including managing updates, resolving issues, and processing refunds within the registration system.
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns related to recreation programs, services, and facilities, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date program information within the recreation software system (Tyler Parks and Recreation) and supporting documentation for brochure development.
- Train and practice with staff the medical emergency, evacuation, and disaster plan in alignment with District and City process; to be prepared for any and all emergencies.
- Attend events and similar as needed; the position requires night/weekend hours to reflect the schedule of events and/or employees and usage of related facilities.
Facilities Usage and Oversight
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the District Facilities department for use of district facilities for communication education or city activities, including supporting the preparation of contracts of department activities and events.
- Oversee all aspects of the city facility rentals from initial inquiry through event completion, including customer communication, scheduling, and coordinator with Public Works for maintenance and setup needs.
Parks & Recreation Marketing & Communications Lead - Overseeing digital presence and public communications:
- Community event marketing related to Parks & Recreation (City and BASD).
- Management of digital presence of department on district and social media platforms as needed.
- Support district and city communication objectives as relates to department as needed
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in recreation, programming, event coordination, facility operations or related fields.
- Candidates must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to be an authorized driver required
