Employees assigned to Parks Maintenance perform routine maintenance, custodial services, and repairs to City parks, sports complexes, the PERA, trails, recreation facilities, and other Community Services properties. Responsibilities include maintaining buildings, grounds, landscaping, athletic facilities, restrooms, sidewalks, and park amenities. Work may include carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, irrigation repair, electrical repairs, fencing, landscaping, equipment maintenance, custodial services, and safety inspections. Employees may also assist with athletic field maintenance, event setup and teardown, special event support, facility inspections, and the maintenance and repair of recreation amenities and public spaces. Duties may vary based on seasonal demands and departmental operational needs.
• Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs on equipment to ensure safe operation and proper working conditions.
• Completes work orders, safety inspection forms, and other maintenance-related documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicates maintenance needs, safety concerns, and repair requests to supervisors and other departments as appropriate.
• Responds courteously and professionally to questions and requests from the public.
• Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, front-end loaders, dump trucks, forklifts, small tractors, and other equipment requiring a valid Arizona Driver's License.
• Operates power-driven equipment such as jackhammers, concrete saws, compactors, and other machinery to perform maintenance and construction projects.
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools to perform repair, installation, and maintenance tasks.
• Paints and maintains park amenities and facilities, including restrooms, ramadas, bleachers, fencing, signs, and equipment.
• Removes, repairs, and installs fencing, gates, and related infrastructure.
• Digs trenches and assists with the installation of electrical conduit, irrigation components plumbing, and other utility systems.
• Installs, replaces, cleans, adjusts, and repairs park amenities, equipment, and facility components.
• Performs maintenance and repair work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 10 feet when necessary.
• Conducts routine inspections of parks, buildings, playgrounds, sports facilities, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and ensure public safety.
• Monitors grounds, structures, and facilities to maintain cleanliness, appearance, and safe operating conditions.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to hazardous conditions, including moving traffic, heavy equipment, smoke, fumes, hazardous gases, and other workplace hazards.
• Safely handles and uses cleaning products, detergents, paints, solvents, acids, bases, and other maintenance materials in accordance with safety procedures.
• Measures, marks, and prepares fields/parks for special events.
• Assists with turf maintenance activities, including mowing, aerating, fertilizing, overseeding, and general field maintenance.
• Measures distances and assists with the setup and removal of special event equipment, including tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones, fencing, and related materials.
• Safely lifts, moves, and transports equipment, materials, concrete blocks, fertilizer, and other supplies weighing up to 90 pounds, utilizing carts, dollies, or other lifting aids when appropriate.
• Cleans and maintains the PERA, including interior spaces, exterior grounds, sidewalks, parking areas, and surrounding property.
• Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance at the PERA and reports maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate department.
• Cleans, sanitizes, and restocks restrooms, kitchens, meeting rooms, and common areas at the PERA.
• Cleans and maintains Sports Complex restrooms, common areas, and support facilities.
• Maintains Sports Complex grounds, amenities, walkways, and landscaping, excluding ballfield infields.
• Performs duties outdoors in varying weather conditions and environmental conditions.
• Maintains regular attendance and adheres to established work schedules.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to learn job-related tasks, equipment operation, and safety regulations through on-the-job training and apply safe work practices at all times.
• Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and supplies used in parks, grounds, building, and facility maintenance.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions associated with maintenance and construction work.
• Skill in the safe operation and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, lawn and landscape equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
• Skill in operating vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, riding lawn equipment, tractors, forklifts, loaders, and other equipment required for assigned duties.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and effectively read, write, and communicate in English.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and complete work according to established schedules with minimal supervision.
• Ability to safely lift and move heavy materials weighing up to 90 pounds, perform strenuous physical labor, and walk, stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.
• Ability to safely operate equipment, tools, and machinery while following established safety procedures.
• Ability to understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
