POSITION INFORMATION
The Placer County Parks, Trails & Open Space Division is seeking motivated and hardworking individuals to join us as Parks Workers. Get hands-on experience working in some of Placer Countyâs most scenic open spaces, including Hidden Falls and Big Hill Preserve, while supporting important fuel load reduction and vegetation management activities. The eligible list created from this recruitment may be used to fill Temporary/Extra-help and Permanent positions. Temporary/Extra-Help assignments are limited to 28 hours per week with a cap of 999 hours (or 960 hours for CalPERS retired annuitants) in a fiscal year and are not eligible for benefits. Extra-help appointments made from this eligible list may transition to permanent status, should vacancies arise.
Employees who are designated to use a second language in the normal course and scope of work will receive five percent (5%) bilingual pay.

DEFINITION
To perform semi-skilled and skilled construction and maintenance of County landscapes, parks, trails, open space, median areas, beaches, and lawn and garden areas; to perform painting, metal fabrication, sign installation, tree trimming and removal, and irrigation system calibration, testing, and modification; to perform maintenance and repair of tools and equipment; and to perform routine maintenance and general construction related to parks facilities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the full journey level class within the Parks Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the entry level.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Parks Worker in that the latter performs complex and difficult work in the construction and maintenance of parks, trails, and open space with a high degree of skill and independent judgment, coordinates and schedules assigned projects and exercises technical and functional supervision over crew members.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from a Parks Crew Supervisor and may receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Parks Worker and/or higher-level supervisory and management staff.

Two (2) years of experience performing duties similar to a Maintenance Worker assigned to Parks with Placer County.
Training: Â
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Required License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver''s license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate from California Department of Pesticide Regulation is desired.
Possession of a valid Class A or B driver''s license with air brakes and tanker endorsements may be required depending upon the position. Â

DOJ Criminal Background Clearance: Successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check through the California Department of Justice.
Medical Evaluation: Pass a pre-employment physical, which may include drug screening and/or a psychological evaluation.
Oath of Office: Subscribe to the constitutional oath or affirmation as required for all public employees by the California Constitution.
Employment Eligibility Verification: Provide original documents that establish both identity and the legal right to work in the United States, as required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Position-Specific Requirements

Background Check: Some positions require a background investigation. This may include a credit check, voice stress analysis, polygraph, and/or proof of bonding.

Medi-Cal Access/Licensing: Applicants with access to Medi-Cal billing software or who are licensed providers must clear the Federal Exclusion List, credentialing, and social security verification.
