General Function
The primary duty of the Academic Advisor - College of Education in West Plains is to assist Elementary Education College of Education students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for their stated educational goals and to assist students in progressing towards degree completion. The Academic Advisor - College of Education in West Plains provides information about teacher certification requirements for the state of Missouri to Elementary Education education undergraduate majors and post-baccalaureate students. The Academic Advisor - College of Education in West Plains supports student success and retention by maintaining necessary records and files to monitor the academic progress of students, assisting in the development of retention and engagement activities for students, and referring students to University resources that provide assistance to students having difficulty. The Academic Advisor - College of Education in West Plains visits with prospective transfer students, and those students interested in changing to a College of Education major.
Description of Primary Duties
The primary duty of this Academic Advisor - College of Education in West Plains position is to advise and assist College of Education students pursing Elementary Education teacher certification at the West Plains campus location.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
Experience: Experience in academic advising, higher education, K - 12 employment or a related area in which a knowledge of academic programs was gained is preferred.
Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to work with the public in person and on Zoom, are required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, attention to detail and organizational skills are required. Computer literacy is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures, its requirements and regulations is preferred.
Other: The ability to work in the late afternoon and early evening is required.
Additional Qualifications Special Instructions to Applicants
Work hours will be Monday through Thursday from 1pm to 6pm.
Hours are subject to change based on course schedules.
