Part-Time Academic Success Coach\n \nPOSITION TITLE: Part-time Academic Success Coach\n \nLOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) \u2013 Plainview Campus\n \nDEPARTMENT: Student Success\n \nSUPERVISED BY: Director of Student Success\n \nCLASSIFICATION: Exempt\n \nPOSITIONS SUPERVISED: Student Work Study positions\n \nGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Be responsible for providing academic and success coaching to Plainview WBU students over a variety of areas associated with student success. \n \nSPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:\n\n Provide academic and success coaching, proactive advising, etc. to WBU students in a variety of areas associated with student success, retention, eligibility, financial aid, etc.\n Maintain regular communication and potentially meet with an assigned sub-set of the student population (international, online, specific teams, etc.) who are struggling academically or at-risk.\n Learn and use the student success software to log, track and respond to student alerts and provide critical interventions. Attend training as needed to facilitate this. \n Aid students with time management, study strategies, test preparation strategies, etc. and connect students to resources on campus.\n Communicate regularly with faculty and coaches on progress of students, course requirements, eligibility and other issues that affect student success in the classroom.\n Assist the Director of Student Success with programming/events, communications, and data collection regarding student success, as needed.\n \nThe above statements are not a complete list of all responsibilities and duties performed by employees in this job. Employees may perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Success.\n \nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: \n \nEducation: Associate or Bachelor degree strongly preferred in education, psychology, social sciences, social work, counseling, child development, or any other related field. \n \nExperience and Knowledge: Preference given to candidates with higher education, teaching or counseling experience. Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired. \n \nSkills and Abilities:\n\n Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.\n Skill in the use of computer applications specifically Microsoft Office Suite/365. Ability to learn other software as necessary.\n Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.\n Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students and the general public.\n Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.\n Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.\n Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for the student's best interests.\n Excellent planning and organizational skills.\n Ability to work unsupervised and take initiative to realize/recognize needed steps and respond in a timely and effective manner.\n \nWork Environment: The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. Employees will work primarily at a desk or workstation, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. The office maintains a controlled temperature. Noise levels are generally moderate, with typical office sounds such as conversations, foot traffic and phones. \n \nHours of Work: Plainview campus \u2013 Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Since this position is part-time, up to 29 hrs/week may be logged. A timesheet will be submitted bi-monthly. There is an opportunity for these hours to be flexible in days of the week and time of day with consideration given to student high-volume time periods.\n \nPhysical Demands:\n\n Frequently stand and walk;\n Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;\n Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;\n Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;\n Occasionally push or pull objects;\n Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;\n Frequently reach at or below shoulder height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height\n \nCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:\n \nEmployment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.
