POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Track & Field Coach will assist with the Hurdles event group and support other training groups across the Track & Field program. Reporting to the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach, this position works closely with the coaching staff to develop student-athletes, foster a Christ-centered team culture, and support the spiritual, academic, and athletic success of Vanguard University student-athletes. POSITION DUTIES - Must be available 4-5 practice days per week, with the addition of track meets throughout the season.
- Assist with coaching daily practice sessions, educating student-athletes in the development and techniques and skills of the sport.
- In partnership with the coaching staff, develops a strong Christ-centered team culture that reflects Vanguard’s mission and values while supporting the spiritual, academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes, the athletic department objectives, and team success.
- Use sport-specific knowledge, training techniques, and team-building leadership skills to implement a competitively excellent team.
- Attend required meetings.
- Assists in monitoring academic progress.
- Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the Department, the University, the Pacific West Conference, and the NCAA.
- Accepts responsibility to know and understand NCAA DII and Pacific West Conference/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rules and regulations.
- Promote a culture of compliance within the athletic department and assist or advise staff and student-athletes to prevent compliance violations. The same would apply to any athletic organization to which the University belongs. This responsibility entails reading and studying available materials and attending professional conferences and meetings to remain informed about current regulations, trends, and student-athlete conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head and Associate Head Coach and/or Athletic Director, including but not limited to program reporting.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Preferred 2-4 years of experience in an athletics department environment or the equivalent thereof.
- Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize specialized details and tasks.
- Ability to handle complaints and assist in conflict management.
- Absolute preservation of confidential records, financial data, and agreed-upon conversations.
- Ability to be flexible to changing conditions, needs, and job responsibilities.
- A strong interest in seeing intercollegiate athletes succeed.
- An understanding and sensitivity to FERPA laws as it pertains to student-athletes.
- A working knowledge of NCAA rules, bylaws, and philosophies.
- Excellent customer service: must be team-oriented, able to demonstrate exceptional communication abilities, both orally and in writing, and work with multiple audiences both externally and internally.
- Must be highly motivated, organized, multitasking, and goal-oriented.
- Knowledge and acceptance of the mission, principles, and philosophies of Vanguard University
SALARY This is a part-time, non-exempt position with anticipated seasonal earnings of approximately $10,000, based on hours worked. The season is expected to run from September 2026 through May 1, 2027, excluding the University's winter break period when practices are not held.
