The City of Hinesville is seeking applications for a Part Time Bus Operator. This role involves providing transportation services for the public in a safe reliable manner. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to safely operating and properly maneuvering various types of vehicles, transporting demand-response passengers, providing excellent customer service, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Major duties include:

  • Knowledge of all traffic, City, State and Federal laws and regulations
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of operating vehicles including pre/post trip inspection of equipment and submission of daily trip summaries while working with the public
  • Operates public transit vehicles to provide safe and timely transportation for the public and special populations on the City's demand-response and fixed route service
  • Assists persons with mobility devices to board and alight from the vehicle and to secure their mobility device inside the vehicle
  • Knowledge of the geography of the City of Hinesville, City of Flemington, City of Walthourville and Ft Stewart
  • Ability to make independent judgements which have moderate impacts on the organization

Knowledge of all traffic, City, State and Federal laws and regulations. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of operating vehicles including pre/post trip inspection of equipment and submission of daily trip summaries while working with the public. Ability to read and write to complete required reports and records. Ability to operate a two-way radio in accordance with internal operating procedures. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Minimum qualifications include the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having held a similar position for one to two years. Must maintain a valid Georgia Driver's license. Must be able to pass a pre-employment Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen and physical.

The minimum hourly rate of pay is $19.59. The position closes on July 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
