GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This is a part-time Clinical Faculty position for the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) Doctor of Chiropractic program. The faculty member is primarily responsible for teaching, assessing, and mentoring students in clinical settings, with a strong focus on ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in accordance with the SCU Spine Care Pathway and Whole Health principles.

 The role involves leveraging clinical expertise to design and deliver educational experiences that enhance student learning outcomes and support their professional development. Faculty members are also responsible for overseeing and guiding clinical students during patient care, which may occur at any SCU-owned and operated clinics or partner clinic locations.

Additional responsibilities include participating in student remediation, attending departmental and faculty meetings, completing administrative tasks associated with clinical oversight, and fulfilling duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean, Dean, or Chief Clinical Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide and supervise high-quality patient care in compliance with SCU Health standards, including the Spine Care Pathway, Whole Health principles, and state and federal laws.  
• Teach and mentor clinical interns in delivering patient-centered care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and case management, as outlined in the clinic procedures manual.
• Use evidence-informed teaching strategies and methods to support clinical skill development and ensure alignment with current course objectives.
• Adapt teaching methods and clinical supervision based on assessment results, student performance, and best practices in teaching and learning.
• Conduct regular evaluations of clinical students’ performance using the Zoho Platform and provide timely feedback to support their growth
• Oversee clinical student remediation plans, ensuring timely follow-through and achievement of desired learning outcomes.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with health center policies and procedures, including patient records and intern evaluations.
•  Grade clinical assignments and assessments, ensuring accurate and timely submission of student grades in Canvas.
• Review and approve student clinical hours/credit submissions in Exxat Prism on a weekly basis.
• Participate in clinic meetings and department activities to support continuous improvement and alignment with SCU Health’s mission.
•  Remain current in clinical practices and educational methods, incorporating updates to reflect advancements in the field.
•  Comply with SCU’s Faculty Handbook and adhere to all institutional policies, including those related to health center operations.
•  Maintain all required licenses and certifications necessary for employment and clinical practice.
•  Uphold patient safety and quality care standards by ensuring compliance with all state and federal healthcare laws.
•  Contribute to clinic operations as needed, performing other duties as assigned by leadership.

ATTENDANCE

Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

WORK LOCATION

 This position requires weekly onsite attendance to meet the essential functions of the job. Onsite activities may include but are not limited to the following: supervision of clinical students during live patient care activities.

 INTELLECTUAL

Ability to work independently and follow through on multiple assignments in a timely manner. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of directions and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 Work effectively as a team member; work with diverse constituencies; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding, faculty, staff, and student issues.

Excellent teaching skills; demonstrate ability to teach technique and soft tissue methods at the University level; both in the clinic system and in the classroom

 Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; coordinate and prioritize a variety of diverse tasks; work effectively with conflicting priorities and tight deadlines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of clinical students during live patient care activities; mentor for clinical clerkship students.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a CCE accredited program that is licensure eligible in California. Bachelor of Science degree in Education, or higher, is preferred. Experience commensurate with ranking.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex information and documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, concerns or needs. Ability to write and communicate effectively.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

 Ability to work in electronic health records applications. Ability to work in a Microsoft Windows environment (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). Ability to work with applications related to assessment (Zoho, Exxat/Prism).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must hold a California DC license. Must maintain licenses and certificates necessary for employment eligibility. Willingness to be credentialed with a variety of insurance companies such as Medicare, Optum, Landmark, and ASH preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES/ QUALIFICATIONS:

• McKenzie (MDT) certification preferred.
• Primary Spine Practitioner (PSP) certification preferred.
