General Function
Provides confidential, one-on-one counseling and coaching to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners in the areas of venture creation, business management, marketing, sources of capital, planning, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Counsels aspiring entrepreneurs in the areas of venture creation inclusive of concept development, business planning, feasibility analysis, licensing/permits, budgeting, financial forecasting, etc. (Counseling provided at the SBC and/or virtually)
- Counsels existing business owners in the areas of strategic and growth planning, operations management and marketing. (Counseling provided at the SBC, virtually and at the site of the business).
- Conducts business plan reviews helps prepare cash flow statements
- Enters detailed confidential session notes and other pertinent data into Center IC within the month counseling is performed to comply with SBCN guidelines.
- Provides clients information about Small Business Center classes and seminars and encourages use of both SBC and CPCC programs and services.
- Refers clients to other resources and professionals when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Associate Degree from an accredited institution; past or current business ownership/management experience a must
Preferred Requirements:
Experience counseling and/or advising small businesses
Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business Administration, Management or Entrepreneurship

- Knowledge of sound, practical business practices, finance and accounting as errors or failure to exercise care in advising clients could cause irreparable harm.
- Skills in business and strategic planning.
- The ability to assess business training needs and link clients to appropriate college offerings.
- The ability to take great care and discretion while upholding confidentiality.
