The Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI) bridges academia, applied research, and community resilience to deliver the science-informed, equity-centered solutions needed to flourish in a changing climate. Job Summary

The Communications Specialist is a part-time role supporting ERIs communication strategy, with opportunities to practice and develop digital media skills.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Researches, writes, and edits content for ERIs website, social media, email marketing, and print materials that promote ERI¿s mission and impact.
  • Conducts interviews with ERI partners for storytelling purposes.
  • Designs simple graphics for web and social media content.
  • Schedules and publishes content to ERIs website and social media.
  • Monitors news and trends relevant to sustainability and resilience in the Midwest.
  • Supports marketing and promotion of events, such as the Indiana Sustainability and Resilience Conference.
  • Contributes to the strategy and execution of campaigns, such as the Indiana Climate Change Impacts Assessment and Hoosier Resilience Heroes.
  • Identifies trends and suggest ideas to grow ERIs reach across target audiences.
  • Follows established brand guidelines and campaign parameters.
  • Works under the close supervision of the Assistant Director of Strategic Communications.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

SKILLS

Required

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work as part of team and individually
  • Demonstrated attention to detail

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Familiarity with IUs Web Content Management System
  • Social media management experience
  • Interest in photography and video
  • Interest in environmental change, climate change, and related topics

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana

This position is based primarily in an office setting with the expectation of being in person on the IU Bloomington campus.

Advertised Salary

Undergraduate students: $15.00 per hour

Graduate students: $18.00 per hour

Work Hours

This position is eligible for up to 15 hours during the academic year and up to 29 hours during the summer.
