Title: Part-time Community Development Associate

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Pay: $23-$25 an hour depending on experience

Position Summary
The Part-time Community Development Associate reports to the Community Development Manager and works collaboratively with multiple internal programs and service teams. This role supports community development initiatives and operations at a neighborhood-based community center.
The associate is responsible for conducting outreach and engagement activities that increase community members' awareness of available services, programs, and resources. The position focuses on building relationships with residents, community organizations, stakeholders, and local partners while supporting events, communications, food security initiatives, and data collection efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Outreach and Engagement
  • Enhance and maintain a comprehensive community contact database consisting of:
    • Residents
    • Community leaders
    • Block captains
    • Service participants
    • Businesses
    • Schools
    • Faith-based organizations
    • Community-based organizations
  • Build and strengthen relationships through:
    • In-person interactions
    • Telephone outreach
    • Electronic communications
    • Participation in community groups and associations
    • Community meetings
    • Outreach and tabling events
Communications and Resource Awareness
  • Develop and produce outreach materials, including:
    • Articles
    • Videos
    • Newsletters
    • Flyers
    • Social media content
  • Create content related to:
    • Community issues
    • Diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Available neighborhood resources and services
  • Support distribution of communication materials to increase awareness of programs, services, events, and community resources.
Event and Program Support
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and facilitation of:
    • Community events
    • Educational programs
    • Neighborhood meetings
    • Community engagement activities
Food Security Initiatives
  • Support food distribution efforts and other food security-related projects serving neighborhood residents.
Data Collection and Reporting
  • Collect, enter, maintain, and organize community engagement data and project information.
  • Document outreach activities and community interactions using designated systems and reporting formats.
  • Assist with reporting on outreach outcomes and project effectiveness.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support other community development activities and special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in occasional evening and weekend activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in human services, social services, community outreach, or a related field.
  • Experience working within diverse urban communities.
  • Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office and Social media platforms
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Familiarity with Philadelphia communities and neighborhood engagement initiatives.
  • Experience building relationships with diverse populations and community stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively engage individuals from varied backgrounds and life experiences.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain stationary or move throughout various work locations for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs and travel throughout the community as needed.
  • Ability to transport materials and lift/carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to travel between multiple community-based sites.
