DESCRIPTION
Mendocino College is currently accepting applications for part-time, Temporary Part-Time Counselors to work in our Disability Resource Center.
This part-time counseling faculty role is dedicated exclusively to supporting students seeking accommodations related to disabilities. The position focuses on guiding students through the full spectrum of disability support services, including assisting with the application process, reviewing and facilitating accommodation requests, and engaging in the interactive process to determine appropriate and equitable supports. The counselor works collaboratively with students to ensure access to educational opportunities, provides individualized guidance, and helps navigate institutional procedures to promote compliance and student success.
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) provides counseling/instructional accommodation support services for enrolled Mendocino College students who have a verifiable disability. The program serves the educational needs of students with disabilities recognized under Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

ASSIGNMENT/SALARY
Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly contract basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment. Salary is determined by the total contract hours. Hourly contract rate is dependent on qualifications ($69.36 - $96.69). Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the semester.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee.
Paid Time Off: Sick leave is earned based on teaching load percentage.
Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalSTRS Retirement
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The successful candidate will support student success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration. This includes the following duties and/or assignments:

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling
OR Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or
(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Current theories of academic counseling, and related teaching practices; and familiarity with community college mission.
ABILITY TO: Effectively instruct assigned courses using a variety of techniques and methods of delivery; evaluate and develop curriculum and instructional materials; assess student academic progress; maintain records; consistently communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the district; teach at variable locations and hours, including evenings, weekends and online.
