Job Summary:

The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing culturally competent mental health services to university students. This role involves individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, and collaboration with university departments to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for students. The counselor will work part-time, contributing to the mental health and well-being of students while promoting a campus culture of inclusivity and acceptance.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Individual Counseling:

• Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students, addressing a variety of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, identity issues, trauma, and relationship concerns.
• Develop and implement personalized treatment plans and therapeutic interventions.

2. Group Counseling:

• Facilitate support groups and therapy groups for students
• Create a safe and supportive group environment that encourages open discussion and mutual support.

3. Crisis Intervention:

• Offer crisis intervention services, including risk assessment and management of immediate psychological crises.
• Collaborate with university crisis response teams to ensure timely and effective support for students in distress.

4. Outreach and Education:

• Develop and deliver educational workshops, seminars, and training sessions on mental health topics for students, faculty, and staff.
• Participate in campus-wide events and initiatives to promote mental health awareness and inclusivity.

5. Consultation and Collaboration:

• Consult with faculty, staff, and administration on issues related to student mental health and well-being.
• Collaborate with university departments to enhance support services and programming.

6. Documentation:

• Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.

7. Professional Development:

• Stay current with best practices in university mental health counseling through ongoing professional development and training.
• Participate in regular supervision and case consultation meetings.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Licensed or licensed eligible in SC
• Minimum of 2 years experience in mental health counseling.
• Demonstrated knowledge of young adult mental health issues and cultural competency.
• Strong crisis intervention skills and experience.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with young adults.
• Experience working with college athletes.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.
• Training in trauma-informed care and working with ADHD and Autism

Hours and Compensation:

• Part-time position - Flexible Hours and Days
• Available during business hours on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays
