Class Description

Custodian is responsible for a variety of cleaning tasks related to the upkeep of and maintaining a sanitary environment for the college facilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of custodian experience.
  • Flexibility and ability to change shift when requested.
  • Ability to participate in bloodborne pathogens training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or a signed waiver.

Background Check:

  • Candidates may be required to successfully pass a background investigation, to include driving, fingerprint and criminal history evaluation.
  • Candidates may be required to successfully complete a pre-hire, post-offer physical examination, including drug screening.

This is an Essential Position and the employee must be available for building emergencies, and to perform regular duties or other assigned duties at times when the campus is closed to students and non-essential staff. Subject to 24-hour standby or call-in for building emergencies. May be required to work overtime or special hours as needed or required.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  • Sweeps and cleans floors in classrooms, offices and corridors using brooms, brushes, mops, vacuum cleaners and similar cleaning aids. Empties and cleans waste/recycling containers. Cleans windows and sanitizes drinking fountains. Cleans and/or polishes office and classroom furniture and equipment.
  • Disinfects and sanitizes all touch points and other hard surfaces as required
  • Maintains lavatories and locker rooms in clean sanitary conditions. Mops and scrubs floors, walls and partitions. Cleanses and deodorizes fixtures and hardware. Refills towel, tissue, soap and deodorant containers.
  • Cleans building entrances (up to 30 feet from building).
  • Removes all accumulated trash/recycling from building.
  • Reports to supervisor the need for additional cleaning supplies to maintain an appropriate level in respective Building Services closets.
  • Reports all matters of safety to supervisor and Public Safety.
  • Moves furniture, supplies and equipment as directed and required.
  • Reports all identified maintenance items in need of repairs.
  • Effectively performs in a service environment and follows all county, state, college and departmental policies, procedures and practices.

The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan - 457(b) offered through VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. The 457(b) salary reduction authorization form is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
