About South Bend Community Re-Entry Center:

South Bend Community Re-Entry Center is a minimum-security, community-based facility located in South Bend, Indiana, with a capacity of 201 incarcerated adult males. The center serves incarcerated individuals within 12 months of release and provides both work-release and re-entry education programs. Incarcerated individuals gain work experience through local employer partnerships. Programming emphasizes personal responsibility, civic engagement, and strong work habits. Staff provide support to help individuals transition successfully back into the community. The facility plays a vital role in northern Indianas re-entry network. Role Overview:

Serves in delivery and errand capacity for South Bend Community Re-Entry Center. This work primarily involves driving work release participants to and from events and places of employment. Performs such tasks as:

  • Checks oil, gas, etc., ensures the cleanliness of the vehicle, and also limits carpool care

  • Performs local delivery and pick up of participants on and off the grounds

  • Performs occasional delivery and pick up out of town

  • Drives work release participants/residents to and from events and transports them to their places of employment

  • Performs related work as required

Pay Rate:

The rate for this position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $16.24 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Drives patients, residents, or incarcerated individuals to various locations.
  • Ensures vehicle clean, and safe to operate such as checking oil levels, gas, etc.
  • Picks up supplies and other equipment as needed.
  • Maintain mileage trip tickets for vehicles.
  • Follows proper protocol when handling patients, residents, or incarcerated individuals.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What Youll Need for Success:

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have:

  • a valid Indiana Public Passenger Chauffeur License.

Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.

  • Specialized knowledge of driving straight truck and tractor/trailer road truck.
  • Specialized knowledge of vehicle laws pertaining to truck and transportation.
  • Basic knowledge of truck maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to supervise proper loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Ability to drive in all types of weather.
  • Ability to read maps and understand written directions.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate vehicle operator license.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
