Description

PART-TIME PROFESSOR

Hartnell College accepts applications for part-time in-person teaching assignments, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This process allows divisions to contact qualified applicants as instructional needs arise, without waiting for a new recruitment to be posted. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications may be contacted by the appropriate department supervisor, dean, or division chair when an opportunity becomes available.

Candidates for this position must possess the combination of skills and flexibility necessary to counsel students with disabilities and provide assessment for learning disabilities using the criteria outlined in the California Community College LD Eligibility Model. (If applicant is not already certified in the LD Eligibility Model, must commit to becoming certified within one year of hire date.) The DSPS Counselor/Learning Disabilities Specialist will assist the Dean, Student Services in the implementation of Disabled Student Programs and Services.

Examples of Duties

  • Duties may include academic, career, and disability related counseling services to students with disabilities (i.e., deaf, hard of hearing, head injury, psychological, mobility, blind and visually impaired, attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, etc.).
  • Provide classroom instruction, counseling, disability verification, and assure reasonable accommodation and support services for DSPS students.
  • Provide assessment for determination of eligibility for learning disabilities services using criteria of California Community Colleges Learning Disability Eligibility Model; evaluate students academic strengths and weaknesses using appropriate measures; develop individual educational support services for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with college instructors, counselors and other DSPS personnel to assist students in pursuit of their educational goals.
  • Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to counseling, orientation/assessment, recruitment, advising, instruction and class preparation, evaluation of students, committee work, curriculum and program development, and student activities.
  • Other responsibilities include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
  • Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.

  • Ability to effectively work with students from diverse backgrounds who have a wide range of skills, motivations, preparation, and academic and career goals;
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the community at-large.
  • Ability to work effectively in a participatory governance environment;
  • Ability to participate in the development of curriculum and programs, including curriculum delivered via new instructional modalities;
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, universities; and industries;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to maintain subject matter currency;
  • Ability to assist in the development of Student Learning
  • Outcomes (SLOs) and to determine their effectiveness in helping students achieve their desired learning outcomes;
  • Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of instruction and willingness to explore new technologies for instruction and learning;
  • Knowledge of institutional accreditation, planning, and continuous quality improvement;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California Community
  • College mission;
  • Bilingual- English/Spanish
  • Professional counseling experience in an accredited educational institution.
  • A background in teaching and counseling culturally diverse, nontraditional students in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of Title V and ADA regulations for both federal and state.

Supplemental Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(1) Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling; OR

(2) Masters degree in special education and 24 or more semester units of upper division or graduate level course work in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology or social work; OR

(3) masters degree in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, career development, or social welfare and either 12 or more semester units of upper division or graduate level coursework specifically in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities or two years of full- time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following;

(A) Counseling or guidance for students with disabilities; or

(B) Counseling and/or guidance in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities.

Anticipated Compensation:

$70.55-$83.86 per hour for instructional assignments

$60.19-$71.29 per hour for non-instructional assignments (lab/library/counseling)
