The Patient Access Lead serves as a resource to the Supervisor/Manager by providing expert guidance to caregivers, monitoring assigned area, training and mentoring team members and identifying and implementing workflow improvements. The Patient Access Lead has the knowledge and skills to perform all duties required by their assigned area.

Position Details:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Participate in Preceptor training/experience post-hire.

  • Must possess ability to work in stressful situations, meet deadlines and perform daily responsibilities with consistent accuracy.
  • Ability to use logic, good judgment and be able to rapidly identify and initiate corrective actions when problems arise.
  • Models collaborative behavior and communicates positively and professionally.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively providing good written and oral direction to caregivers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and insurance companies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Patient Access procedures.
  • Ability to embrace change by adapting to job duty variances and following leadership direction.
  • Takes responsibility for actions and strives for excellence.
  • Engages in continuing education and seeks new knowledge and skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: 3 years' experience with medical terminology, insurance plans, verification of benefits, authorization and pre-determination.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes.
