Job Summary

Under supervision of the Facilities Manager, performs custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms, and other similar duties. Performs specialized custodial care and general building maintenance to maximize a healthy, safe, pleasant, and functional environment. Will also perform other tasks such as helping move furniture, assisting with setup and take-down of events, hanging office items on walls, and other facilities services-related tasks. Regular rotations between work areas are a required component of this position and will be implemented at the supervisor''s discretion.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Help the City maintain a good public image by providing a safe, clean, comfortable environment conducive to all those who visit our facilities.

  • Ensure all City-owned buildings are cleaned and ready for daily use.

  • Maintain and clean restrooms, including porcelain and stainless-steel surfaces, walls, floor drains, floors, etc.

  • Clean and wash walls, woodwork, windows, doors, desks, ceilings, and other surface areas.

  • Collect and dispose of waste including emptying garbage containers and replacing liners.

  • Assist in maintaining building grounds and parking lots by collecting and disposing of refuse.

  • Inspect buildings for damages and documents for withholding deposit and identify potential fire hazards.

  • Prepare various cleaning reports.

  • Ensure work is completed with minimal disturbance for building occupants.

  • Maintain building security by ensuring doors and windows are locked and secured.

  • Maintain all types of floor surfaces, fabric surfaces, and upholstery.

  • Perform specialized custodial duties, i.e. clean, refinish and maintain a variety of floor coverings and surfaces, clean restroom floors, monitor pest control, and other specialized tasks as assigned. Assist in maintaining adequate stock of cleaning supplies, inventory, and spaces. Organize closets and storage areas to stock parts and supplies.

  • Maintain custodial equipment: perform preventative and repair maintenance on equipment such as buffers, vacuums, scrubbers, burnishers, appliances, etc.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Two years of experience in general custodial, building, and grounds maintenance.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid Utah Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Basic cleaning practices and procedures

  • Maintenance tools and basic custodial equipment

  • Safe use and storage of various cleaning chemicals and compounds

  • Related laws, codes, rules, and regulations governing functions of the position, including applicable OSHA regulations

  • Proper use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and products.

  • Body fluid cleanup and proper protection.

  • All floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, and ceramic tile, as well as carpet fibers, weaves and backings.

  • Waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers.

  • Current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals.

Skill with:

  • Good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Operating various cleaning equipment, including buffers, vacuums, steam cleaners, and other cleaning equipment.

Ability to:

  • Quickly and accurately perform work.

  • Deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner in all circumstances.

  • Follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Understand, read, and communicate in English.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and superiors.

  • Exercise independent judgment while evaluating situations and making determinations.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for on call, stand-by, and emergency call.
