The Position

The City of Rohnert Park is currently looking to fill two (2) Part-Time Facility Attendant positions. Duties include set-up and breakdown of tables and chairs for meetings and events, providing customer service assistance to renters and instructors, and providing information regarding Community Services programs.

Weekly hours range from 10 - 20, depending on programming and rentals.

This position is an "at will", non-benefited position that is limited to 1,000 hours in a fiscal year, from July 1st through June 30th.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you are a CalPERS retiree, you may not work for the City of Rohnert Park more than 960 hours per fiscal year, nor in a regular, permanent position. Work assignments must be temporary (typically limited to 12 months).

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, conducts functions ensuring effective operation of Community Services facilities; prepares facilities for use; works with users during events; cleans and may rearrange facilities following events; registers participants for recreational programs; assists with light maintenance of Community Services facilities; provides support to supervisors; and performs other duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Part-Time Facility Attendant is responsible for performing a wide variety of work to ensure that the appropriate equipment is set up and taken down in public facilities for scheduled functions and activities and that the public facilities are kept safe, clean and orderly.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

General supervision is provided by a Community Services Supervisor, Community Services Coordinator or Part-Time Community Services Coordinator.

Ideal Candidate

These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.

  • Opens and closes facilities for scheduled functions and activities
  • Performs set up and take down of facilities equipment such as tables and chairs
  • Provides staff support for special events and recreation programs
  • Issues athletic and recreational equipment
  • Ensures equipment is returned in proper condition
  • Provides for the needs of the user/renter of the facility
  • Performs light maintenance including litter pick up, light janitorial work, sweeping and emptying trash receptacles; reports any damages or repairs needed
  • Provides customer service, answers the telephone, gives out information regarding the facility schedule, and answers questions regarding a variety of Community Services activities
  • Takes and renews memberships, collects user fees, checks members into various activities, sells pro-shop merchandise, enters sales into the cash register and prepares credit card transactions
  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker in the event of a disaster or emergency
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

Sufficient education, training and/or experience to perform the duties of a Part-Time Facility Attendant.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:(positions in this class typically require)

  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Prior work experience dealing with the public and custodial-related work is desirable.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require)

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Possession of a valid Class C Drivers License and a good driving record.
  • Valid CPR Certificate must be obtained within 90 days of appointment date.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work nights, weekends and holidays as required
  • Per California State Law, smoking is not permitted inside City facilities/vehicles or within 20 feet of main entrances, exits, and operable windows.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Recreational programs and activities offered by the Community Services Department
  • Capabilities of facility
  • General knowledge of custodial work and safe use of products
  • Basic first aid, CPR and AED
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation
  • Basic customer service
  • Basic math and record keeping

SKILL TO:

Additional Information

Position requires sitting, prolonged standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily work activities. The position also requires grasping for, manual dexterity to complete reports, perform data entry, handle payments, and setting up and taking down Community Services equipment. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision. Hearing is required when providing phone and face-to-face customer service. The ability to lift, carry and move equipment and supplies up to 75 pounds is required. May be exposed to fumes from cleaning products.

  • You will receive $1.00 /hour for any hours worked between (9pm -7am).

  • In addition, you will receive overtime pay at 1.5 times your regular hourly rate for any hours worked on a City recognized holiday.

  • Sick hour accrual - 1 hour of paid sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked beginning on the first day of employment.

The City does not participate in Social Security, but does withhold 1.45% of wages for Medicare taxes.

In January 1992, Congress passed new regulations that mandated Social Security coverage for part-time government employees that werent covered by a retirement plan. The City implemented a Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Solutions as an alternative to Social Security. Under this plan, 7.5% of your wages will be deducted prior to any tax calculation. In other words, you will not be paying any taxes on these funds when they are deducted from your paycheck. These funds will be deposited in an account set up for you that will earn tax-free interest at a rate set up every quarter, based upon current interest rates.
