    Description

    The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach ADV 201 The Best Ads in the Universe in person on Tuesdays/Thursdays 2:00pm-3:20pm during the Fall 2026 semester (3 credits).

    Course Description: This course is an exploration of ads from all around the world-analyzing their content, style, and effectiveness across cultures. Learn how award-winning ads are developed, produced and how they impact audiences. For non-majors.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required; master's or advanced degree in advertising or social science research is preferred.

    Job Specific Qualifications

    • Previous teaching experience in advertising account planning and strategic analysis is highly desirable.
    • Outstanding professional experience in Advertising research and account/strategic planning are expected.
    • Preference will be given to the candidate who exhibits both strong professional and teaching credentials.

    Responsibilities

    • Developing a syllabus.
    • Ordering books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes in advance.
    • Preparing for classes.
    • Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
    • Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
    • Ability to hold office hours on campus.
    • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

    Tools/Equipment

    • Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
