Minimum Education:
Master's degree in the content area or master's degree and 18 graduate credit hours in the content area
Preferred Education:
Master's degree in Composition/Writing Instruction – Composition and Basic Writing
Master's Degree in Secondary Education with a Reading Endorsement
Required Experience
English Composition – 1-2 years of experience teaching first-year Composition
Basic Writing – 2-3 years of experience teaching developmental writing
College Reading and Study Skills – 2-3 years of experience teaching developmental reading and knowledge of reading theory.
Responsibilities
Instruct courses aligned with departmental goals for first-year writing and/or developmental writing/reading.
Develop syllabi, assignments, and rubrics that support student learning outcomes.
Provide feedback on student assignments through written comments, conferences, and peer review sessions.
Assess student performance using formative and summative evaluation methods.
Integrate technology and digital literacy into writing instruction (e.g., using LMS platforms, online research tools).
Hold regular office hours to support student learning and address individual concerns.
Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities.
