The College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a Part-time
Instructor to co-teach FSC 606 - Advanced Forensic Science in Fall 2025
(8/25/2025).
Course Description: Selected areas of current interest in forensic science
presented. The application of scientific methods and techniques to crime detection and
the law.
This course is 3 credits and meets in in-person on the SU campus.
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based
on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.
All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with courtroom terminology and legal concepts, courtroom procedures and demeanor, court and jurisdicitonal differences, rules of evidence, admissibility standards.
- Relevant law related to pretrial discovery including responsibilities of attorneys and experts, and ethical obligations of expert witnesses.
- Preferred: Experience as a prosecutor or defense attorney in criminal trials.

Responsibilities
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled oce hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instructors.
