    Description

    The Philosophy Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University is seeking a part-time instructor of Philosophy to teach two sections of PHI 251, Logic, a 3 credit course, during Fall 2026 semester. This course meets in-person on the SU campus.

    The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

    Course Description: Logic as a formal language, as a component of natural language, and as a basis of a programming language. Varieties of logical systems and techniques. Syntax, semantics and pragmatics.

    Responsibilities

    The duties associated with the teaching assignment include:

    • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
    • Preparation of lectures.
    • Maintaining regular contact with students.
    • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
    • Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
    • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
    • Providing department forms for student evaluations.
    • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
