The School of Education seeks an instructor to teach SWK 761 M002 : Integrated Behavioral Health Policy for the Fall semester 2026 (3 credits)

Course Description:

Policies, programs in mental health and developmental disabilities fields. Deinstitutionalization,

community-based services. Special mental health issues related to poverty, ethnicity, gender, and

sexual orientation. Policy analysis. Prereq.SWK611or consent of instructor.

Additional Course Description:

This course builds upon the student's foundation in social welfare policy. Content focuses on the analysisof policies and programs in the mental health arena and the processes for policy advocacy, policydevelopment and implementation in mental health. Special attention is given to public understandings ofmental illness, stigma, and how these shape policies. Also examined is the organizational structure in the public and the private sectors for services delivery,the financing of mental health services, the rights of persons with psychiatric disabilities with respect tomental health treatment, housing and employment, and differences in service use by different population

groups. Also addressed are policies of special importance to social work practice, such as privileged

communication, and confidentiality and consent for minors and adults where there is a question of

capacity.

Qualifications

  • A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree is required, with two plus years of post-master's experience.
  • Previous undergraduate and graduate-level social work teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Completion and submission of CSWE competency-based student outcomes for department assessment/accreditation.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
