Part-Time Faculty: VIS 602: Essentials: Video for MBU (Fall 2026)

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is looking for an instructor to teach VIS 602 Essentials for Visual Communicators: Video for MBU on Wednesdays 9:30-12:15, September 30-October 28, 2026, during the Fall 2026 Semester. (1 credit)

Course Description: Teaches mobile videography as a storytelling tool for music industry promotion and personal branding; emphasizes exposure, composition, light, and editing apps for behind-the-scenes interviews, live performance coverage, and visual narratives optimized for social media platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required. Preference given to applicants with prior teaching experience.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:

• Developing a syllabus.
• Ordering books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes in advance.
• Preparing for classes.
• Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
• Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
• Ability to hold office hours on campus.
• Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

• Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
