Posting Details Position Information Job Title Part Time - General Counselor Location Lake County Campus - Clear Lake CA Job Description BASIC FUNCTION Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services or designee educational administrator provide general counseling services in support of the Colleges recruitment and retention efforts. The Counselor will provide personal career and educational counseling to students. The Counselor will participate in orientationcounseling sessions classroom presentations workshops assessment interpretation outreach activities evening assignments and liaison duties with academic departments. The assignment includes curriculum development development and assessment of student learning outcomes professional activities committee work and utilizing intervention strategies in working with academically challenged students. In addition assignment includes working with electronic processes such as Curricunet Tracdat Degree-Audit etc. or similar systems. Assignments are within Yuba College service centerscampuses. Essential Duties Summary REQUIRED DUTIES Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Examples Of Functions and Tasks Academic Advising Educational Planning Assist students with the process of course selection and other educational processesexperiences Provide information regarding District degreecertification requirements Provide direction regarding selection of educational majors P Provide information regarding transfer requirements to other post-secondary educational institutions Develop Student Educational Plans SEPs with individual students Updating as necessary evaluate student progress toward established goal Career Vocational Counseling and Development Assist students to clarify life and career goals provide assistance to students to develop greater self-knowledge and self-awareness to enhance self-esteem Provide world of work" vocational information to students obtain current labor market information for students Maintain information regarding occupational trends Utilize a variety of occupational resources and systems to serve student needs Administer to students and interpret various career assessment tools Provide students with job-seeking skills and strategies as appropriate Personal Counseling Provide personal counseling to students as appropriate regarding assistance with interpersonal relationship issues and problems development of interpersonal communications skills clarification of values and goals psychological andor behavioral difficulties development of decision-making skills chemical dependency problems gendersexuality issues and concerns health problems and concerns andor other problems and concerns provide referrals to students to external community mental health andor professional counseling andor other assistance agencies as appropriate to meet student needs provide crisis intervention andor emergency counseling for students experiencing serious problems as necessary to meet student needs.Assessment and Interpretation Provide counseling to students to assure that assessmentmatriculation regulations and guidelines are followed Administer to students and interpret various career assessment instruments Provide advisement to students based upon results of basic skills assessment. Instruction Instruct Personal Development courses including developing and providing curriculum for student enhancement maintaining current occupational information and professional resources reviewing current texts presenting lectures and lessons maintaining records of student grades and attendance and participating in conferences and professional workshops as authorized. Outreach Liaison Participate in visits to local area high schools to provide outreach information Function as liaison between the District local area high schools and other post-secondary educational institutions regarding Counseling Center programs and services Attend community events as District representative as authorized provide bi-lingual translational assistance to students and prospective students regarding information on District andor Counseling Center programs and services as assigned and authorized. Student Advocacy Development Facilitate support groups for students as feasible and appropriate provide workshops for students on topics of interest as appropriate refer students to District andor external resources and support services as appropriate to meet student needs participate in new student orientation. Participate as a member of student governmental andor District shared governance andor other committees with regard to student services as feasible and appropriate. District Programs Participate as a member of District shared governance andor other committees regarding District affairs as feasible and appropriate function as liaison between Counseling Center and other District organizational units andor individual faculty or other staff members as necessary participate in District institutional planning as requested. Specialized Programs Participate in program development for specific student andor prospective student populations as requested coordinate activities of specialized programs as requested evaluate activities of specialized programs as applicable. Required Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSThe successful candidate by the final filing date must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in Counseling as governed by the California Community Colleges Chancellors Office All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited institutions. Masters in counseling rehabilitation counseling clinical psychology counseling psychology guidance counseling educational counseling social work or career development marriage and family therapy or marriage family and child counseling OR the equivalent Must apply through YCCDs Equivalency Application Process. Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of Counseling NOTE A license as a Marriage and Family Therapist MFT is an alternative qualification for this discipline pursuant to title 5 section 53410.1. DesiredPreferred Qualifications EXPERIENCEPreference may be given to candidates with life or teaching which would demonstrate the clear ability to provide general counseling services to community college students. Physical Demands RangeStep Class I - VII Based on degree and teaching experience. Salary Range Steps 1 1558.22 - Step 10 2609.76 per unit. Part-time instructor positions are filled as needed through ongoing recruitment. Applicants are contacted and hired year-round based on college needs.
