Description
PURPOSE
The Health Aide provides essential student health services under the supervision of the school district nurse and/or administrator, ensuring a safe and healthy school environment that supports the well-being and academic success of all students within the district.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Reports to the District Nurse and/or Principal
Duration: 10 months/School Year
Evaluation: Performance will be reviewed annually prior to June 30th
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Immunization Records
Enter data into WIR (Wisconsin Immunization Registry)
Monitor compliance with the State of WI school requirements
Provide follow-up as necessary with non-compliant families
Enter vaccination data into Skyward and run reports
Health Alert Forms
Monitor compliance with the requirement for all parents to submit the appropriate health alert forms.
Monitor all health alert forms to identify those students with health conditions.
Medical Alert List for School Staff
Develop and maintain a Medical Alert List of all students with a medical or health condition.
Notify staff of additions or corrections
Medications
Monitor compliance of the required parent permit for over-the-counter medications to be given at school
Monitor compliance of the required physician permit for prescription medications to be given at school
Monitor and maintain medications provided to the school in an organized, secure manner.
Monitor expiration dates
Document medications received from and returned to the parent
Administer Daily and PRN (as needed) medications to students; oral, ear, eye, topical, rectal, injection, nebulizer, inhaled
Administer Emergency Medications when needed: Epi Pen (allergic reactions), Diastat (seizure medication), Glucagon (diabetic hypoglycemic event)
Record keeping of all medications administered at school
Provide Health Room services and First Aid to students
Asthma control
Diabetic control (Training provided)
Injury
Illness
Assist students who are incontinent
Head lice, fleas, bedbugs
Rash, skin disease
Report communicable disease to school district nurse and appropriate personnel, control and investigation and follow preventative protocols
Mental and Behavioral Health Support
Provide treatments for students with special health care needs such as colostomy care, G tube and feedings, glucose testing, etc.
Prepare medical kits as needed for field trips
Attend field trips as needed
concussion protocols implemented
Be an active participant in the Emergency Response team

Vision Screening
Certified vision screener with Prevent Blindness Wisconsin (Training provided)
Screen all students in EC, K4, K5, 1st, 5th, and 7th Grade using the Prevent Blindness Protocol.
Screen all other students referred by the teacher/staff
Maintain vision screening records
Notify parents of screening results
Send referrals home for those who do not pass the screening
Follow up with the parents of students who do not pass the screening
Health Room Maintenance
Order health room supplies, forms, and documentation records
Monitor expiration dates of equipment, medications and supplies
Keep the room organized and clean
Maintain all health-related documentation records
Communication
Maintain communication with parents, school staff, administrative staff, and the School District Nurse
Must be able to appropriately communicate with various age levels of students
