Job Goals:

  • Responsible for the timely delivery and collection of interoffice mail, district documents, and instructional materials between schools and district facilities.
  • Manages daily operations of the district bookroom, including receiving, organizing, inventorying, and distributing textbooks, workbooks, instructional supplies, and other educational materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Alabama driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, delivery services, or related field preferred.
  • Ability to operate computers and inventory management software.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and distribution procedures.
  • Ability to accurately track and maintain inventory records.
  • Ability to follow delivery schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding district information.
  • Work is performed in a warehouse/bookroom setting, district facilities, and school locations.
  • Frequent travel between district sites is required.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, loading docks, storage areas, and outdoor conditions may occur.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
  • Ability to load and unload materials from vehicles and storage areas.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Transport interoffice mail, district correspondence, packages, and supplies between schools, departments, and central office locations.
  • Maintain assigned delivery routes and schedules to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials.
  • Pick up and deliver confidential documents in accordance with district procedures.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials using appropriate safety procedures.
  • Maintain delivery logs and records as required.
  • Report vehicle maintenance needs, accidents, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Receive, inspect, and process incoming shipments of textbooks, instructional materials, and supplies.
  • Organize and maintain bookroom inventory in an orderly and accessible manner.
  • Distribute textbooks, workbooks, and instructional materials to schools and departments.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using district inventory management systems.
  • Assist with textbook check-in, check-out, and redistribution processes.
  • Conduct periodic inventory counts and assist with end-of-year inventory audits.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for delivery to schools and district departments.
  • Identify damaged, outdated, or missing materials and report discrepancies.
  • Operate district vehicles safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and district policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bookroom, storage areas, and delivery vehicle.
  • Assist with special projects, district-wide distributions, and warehouse operations as assigned.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to school and district personnel.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
