Job Description:Part-time instructor positions (as defined byState Board Policy, BP 3-10) exist to create and maintain a teaching and learning environment that empowers students to be successful. Part-time instructors work under the direction of their respective Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Division Dean.Pikes Peak State College maintains a pool of qualified part-time instructors. Part-time instructorswill be selected to support departmental requirements. Part-time instructorsmay be employed to teach courses, conduct presentations or other service activities when current instructors andfacultyare not available.Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment. All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.Minimum QualificationsCurrent Certified Dental Assistant Credential (Dental Assisting National Board)Completed Bachelor's degree or enrolled in a bachelor's degree program that can be completed within 3 years of employment.Current CPR certificationMust possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Career and Technical Education Teaching CredentialPreferred Qualifications:One year post-secondary teaching/tutoring experienceRetirement:Pikes Peak State College participates in theColorado Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA)contribution rates.Note:Prior submission of application materials will not be considered.Visa support is not available for this position.Special Note:CTE Programs: Applicants must possess or be eligible to receivethe relative Colorado State Career Technical Education Teaching Credential inorder to qualify for disciplines within CTE Programs.Information on credentialing requirements can be located online athttp://www.coloradostateplan.com/default_cred.htmPrimary Duties and Responsibilities:Provide didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction on a variety of topics such as oral anatomy, dental science, dental charting, dental materials, dental radiography, specialties in dentistry, clinical procedures, dental office equipment operation, business office procedures, ethics and jurisprudence, infection control and safety measures, medical emergencies in the dental office, preventive dentistry, nutrition and expanded functions dental assisting in Colorado.Participate in advisory committee meetings, dental assisting departmental meetings, divisional meetings, professional development activities, college wide committees, and student enrichment activities.Develop curriculum and student evaluation instruments to keep courses relevant to current trends in dentistry.Maintain accurate student grade and attendance records.Maintain good order and discipline in the classroom/laboratory settings.Maintain instructional equipment, infection control and safety protocols and supply inventories.Practice resource conservation by avoiding the wasteful use of supplies, utilities, equipment and other resources.Instruct and supervise students in the practice of resource conservation.Utilize communication skills that foster supportive and positive learning environments for students.Work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Demonstrates ability to plan, organize, and deliver appropriate curriculum.Demonstrates ability to employ qualitative and quantitative analytical skills in the classroom.Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate written student records as required by policy and procedure.Demonstrates ability to inform students of all course requirements.Demonstrates ability to evaluate students and offer feedback on a continuing basis.Demonstrates ability to relate to student concerns and maintain open communication.Demonstrates ability to work effectively with diverse populations.This job description reflects Pikes Peak State College's best effort to describe the essential duties and qualifications of the job.
