The School of Information Studies is seeking a Part-Time instructor to teach IST263 Intro to Web Development: Principles for construction and publication of multimedia documents for the Web. Incorporate a user-based approach to planning, design, implementation, and management, with an entrepreneurial perspective and a focus on the client/enterprise.
After taking this course, students will be able to:
- Understand key terms and definitions related to common web technologies
- Understand at a basic and intermediate level the workings of websites
- Understand at an intermediate or expert level key Web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Understand how a website is put together, including site maps, wireframes, content documents, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Demonstrated proficiency in HTML5 and semantic markup
- Strong working knowledge of CSS, including Flexbox layout system, responsive design, and basic styling/box model concepts
- Solid understanding of JavaScript fundamentals (variables, functions, DOM manipulation, event handling, basic control flow)
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to beginners with no prior coding background
- Experience using developer tools (browser dev tools, code editors such as VS Code)

Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be prepared to serve as instructor and mentor and be willing to work with the Professor of Record, Program Director, and other instructors teaching this class. This course has a developed syllabus, exercises, and texts, however, we seek individuals who can bring their own experiences to the course.
- Collaborate with professor of record and/or program director, who is responsible for creating the course syllabus and course content, as well as providing an overview of their overall vision for the course.
- Attend onboarding and training with the iSchool's Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning
- Maintain office hours and open communication with students.
- Maintain the course in the Blackboard Learning Management system and prep lectures, projects and other student assignments
- Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner; provide feedback when appropriate.
- Prepare for weekly online sessions with students
- Prepare to offer the class in the Spring 2027, with weekly in person meetings on the Syracuse University campus.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance level of the course
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations and school/college-level policies
