Description
The City of Anaheim is seeking a team-oriented, dynamic, and customer-focused Part-Time Intermediate Clerk to support the Planning and Building Department. This position plays a key role in providing professional, timely, and accurate service to the public, applicants, contractors, and internal staff.
The ideal candidate will have journey-level clerical experience performing a full range of office support duties in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include maintaining schedules and calendars, operating a multi-line phone system with a high volume of inquiries, and providing front counter and in-person assistance to the public.
Candidates should have experience supporting managers and staff, strong proficiency in computerized business databases for data entry and report generation, and prior clerical experience in a public sector setting.
Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is preferred. Highly desirable qualifications include prior public sector experience, particularly in a municipal environment, as well as experience with code enforcement, building or urban planning, municipal building permits, planning services, business licensing, and public counter operations.
This is a part-time position, typically averaging 20-30 hours per week. A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed.

Essential Functions

Qualifications
Experience: Varied journey level clerical work.
Knowledge of: Modern office methods, procedures and computer equipment; basic principles and procedures of filing and record keeping; basic principles of customer service. Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic arithmetic.
Ability to: Perform general clerical work including filing, typing and answering phones. Type and/or enter data on a computer at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Receive, process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail. Operate a variety of office equipment including computers and supporting word processing applications. Provide detailed information to the public regarding assigned area of responsibility. Correctly interpret and apply City policies and procedures. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Environmental Conditions: Office environment. Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents will have exposure to a variety of computer applications.
Physical Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment utilizing modern office equipment and technology and may require sitting for prolonged periods of time using a computer. The incumbent stands, walks, and may twist, reach, bend, crouch and kneel. An incumbent must be able to meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS - The City contracts with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS.
Part-time eligible employees become members of CalPERS as either Classic or New members.
Part-time employees not eligible for CalPERS are required to participate in the City's part-time 457 plan, as a replacement plan for Social Security.
